A new museum reveals the essence of the art of Hokusai

Katsushika Hokusai, a world-renowned ukiyo-e artist, was born in 1760, and spent almost the entirety of his life in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, where he created a large number of masterpieces.

In honor of this outstanding artist, the Sumida Ward opened the Sumida Hokusai Museum on November 22, 2016 as a base to invigorate the local community and contribute to the region’s industry and tourism.
