Otaru Music Box Museum

June 30,2016

Q: What’s the main specialty of the Otaru Music Box Museum?

A: Music Box is another thing that Otaru is famous for. Otaru Music Box Museum is one of the largest music box shops in Japan with hundreds of music boxes being displayed. The beautiful century-old building, designated as one of historic landmarks of OtaruCity, is full of music boxes in various sizes and types. In front of the museum is the Steam Clock made by a Canadian clock maker. The five steam chimes blow the melody every 15 minutes and the main steam whistles on the hour. This is a popular landmark for tourists.  Here, we found it having a hard time just to decide which music box to buy! To make your visit even more memorable, you can even make your music boxes with an additional fee.
