Shopping List for Kids in Japan
A heaven for the Pokémon lovers!
The hype for Pokémon Go may have subsided but many Pokémon fans remain passionately loyal to the cute characters and popular game. If you are one and happen to be around Ikebukuro area in Tokyo, be sure to check out the Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO in Ikebukuro Sunshine City.
I remember going there when my son, Junya, was 6 months old. He was a little too young to know the characters. My husband asked, “Is Pokémon popular in Malaysia?” (He probably thought it would be a good topic for me to introduce to my readers). I shrugged and said “Maybe not”. But I’m glad that there are more people finding this post useful now!
Located on the second floor of Ikebukuro Sunshine City, this Pokémon Center is sure to delight both the hardcore and casual Pokémon fans. You can find almost everything Pokémon related in this store alone – ranging from trading cards for the avid players to the adorable Bulbasaur plushies and Pikachu iPhone cases for those who simply adore Pokémon’s cuteness.
Here are some of my favorite merchandise:
This is the best and most cost-effective souvenir you can buy for your Pokémon-crazy friends back home! Pikachu cup noodle filled with Pikachu kamaboko (fish cake) selling at only 130 yen! Junya was very excited to taste it. It was in the classic Shoyu (soya-sauce) flavored ramen, but the cute Pikachu kamaboko will surely make your entire meal Instagram-worthy!
I love this! It is a balancing toy where you have to stack the Pikachu’s all over a sleeping “Snorlax on a Hammock”.
If you are a parent who is simply forcibly dragged into the store by your excited kids, you will be surprised to find that not all the things here are childish and cute (kawaii). I love how they managed to turn it into an interesting traditional Japanese print from such a juvenile product. This is my favorite series!
Look at the Poke Ball wind-bell that is for sure to appeal to the tourist and customers.
If you are a Pokémon Go fan, do note that the center is both a PokeStop and a Gym. So Pokémon fans will surely be very busy in this store! What other gym can be more symbolic than this one!
