Shopping List for Kids in Japan
Recommended for the entire family, and the Duffy & Gelatoni fans!
There are two questions I am often asked regarding the theme parks in Tokyo. First question is, “Which season is the best to visit Disneyland or DisneySea?”
I have been to Disneyland during all the four seasons but spring is my favorite. Firstly, the weather is perfect as you do not have to face the hot sun or bear the shivering cold wearing thick jacket while queuing up for the rides. Secondly, Disney decoration is the prettiest in spring time! Usually the theme would be “Easter”, and the whole park is adorned in pretty pastel shades with the most beautiful floral decoration!
The second question is, “Which one is better? Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea?”
I have been to both many times, and I love both of them. I personally prefer DisneySea because I am a big fan of their Sea-only Limited Edition Characters - Duffy and ShellieMay. The two characters are now more widely available hence as such it kind of lost their novelty. Perhaps DisneySea realized it too, as such they came out with the new character - Gelatoni, which is exclusive only to the DisneySea.
Gelatoni is an Italian cat with beautiful turquoise eyes, a long tail, and blue beret who loves to paint. His story goes that one day Duffy and friend were taking a walk around the Mediterranean Harbor when he dropped his favorite gelato. Gelatoni saw this, and used the fallen melting ice cream to paint a picture which cheered up the dispirited Duffy. From then on, the two became good friends!
If you are also a Duffy fan, be sure to meet the life-sized Duffy at the Duffy Meet and Greet spot, although there might be a line, depending on the season.
Junya cried the moment Giant Duffy said “hi” to him. The Disney staffs were super professional. They may already have such experience probably many times on a daily basis, but what impressed me was that they quickly distracted the crying baby with a rattle and that’s how we got this picture!
This is also a relatively new show in DisneySea called My Friend Duffy, held at one of the restaurants - Cape Cod Cook-Off! It is a fun-filled show that tells the story of how Duffy sets off on an adventurous voyage and how his friend, ShellieMay, came to be.
It is a perfect show for family as the parents can sit down for a short rest while the kids enjoy and get entertained with the cute characters in the show while snacking on soup, burgers and sweets!
We walked a lot more and went for a couple of other attractions. I decided to sit down for a break, and went to wash Junya’s milk bottles and changed his diaper.
Did you know? DisneySea Tokyo has the most awesome nursery for parents who visit with kids!
In the nursery there are 4 different areas. A staff is in-charged at each area who is ever so ready to help. One of the areas is a children’s playground that is for “Lost Children”. They can feel safe with the staff and play while waiting for their frantic parent to come pick them up. The second area is a nursing room, and the third a changing space where the staff lays fresh changing sheet and spray disinfectant as soon as someone finishes changing her baby!
I was really touched by the thoughtfulness and genuine helpfulness provided by the park and staff.
And you need not worry about meals for your small children when visiting this theme park.
You can purchase Disney edition baby meals from the nursery. How awesome!
Coincidentally, it was Junya’s 1st birthday on the day we visited DisneySea!
Apparently it is also a popular trend in Japan to visit Disneyland to celebrate the child’s birthday. Hence, it is no surprise to see the park filled with kids celebrating the same birthdate! Your birthday child will receive a birthday batch and sometimes you may get a surprise!!
