Ramen, Ramen Yokocho

Q: Sapporo is one of Japan’s most famous ramen destinations. So, what is your recommendation of true Sapporo ramen dishes?

A: Nestled between two narrow streets in Susukino, we found the best local specialty: Ramen. Slurp! Our ultimate favorite for these two alleyways dedicated to Sapporo-style Miso Ramen and Hakodate-style Shio Ramen. Sapporo is one of Japan’s most famous ramen destinations, best known as the birthplace of miso ramen.  When it comes to ramen in Sapporo, miso flavor comes first. We can’t talk about it without miso ramen.

We got medium thick noodles cooked al dente and bathed in an earthy robust miso broth. The thick flavorful broth was a masterpiece. What made this stand out was the combination that works so well together. The sweet tender pork belly slices, lots of crunchy bean sprouts, spring onions, chewy ramen noodles and beautiful miso broth worked its magic to create an utterly scrumptious bowl of ramen. Also, thumbs up for the perfect soft centered marinated egg, it was eye opening! It definitely created a long-lasting memory after we tried it for the first time in Sapporo. It was honestly a gorgeous bowl of noodles!

Your trip to Hokkaido is not complete without trying the different styles of Ramen from various regions. Each ramen owner is very particular about the hearty soup and making the most of the local ingredients. Without a doubt, we were addicted to this famous local specialty.
